It’s the most wonderful time of the year, yes that’t right its the Sephora VIB sale. Sephora only offers two sales throughout the year, though they did a surprising sale this year at the end of the summer. Since any kind of discount at Sephora is huge, I like most people try to take advantage of the sale. I love seeing all the products that people not only buy but recommend, so I thought I join fun too.
So first a quick breakdown on how Sephora sales work. Sephora has three tiers for customers depending on how much they spend throughout a calendar year. The three tiers are: VIB Rouge (spends $1000/year), VIB ($350/year), and Beauty Insider (everybody who signs up). Each tier gets different perks and I wont get into all of that, but just the ones that pertain to the sale. VIB Rouge and VIB members get 20% off, and while in past years Rouge members were able to get a higher percentage discount (25-30 I think, but honestly not quite sure. I was a Rouge member then and I didn’t really pay attention.), now the VIB Rouge members get an extra weekend before the official VIB Sale begins. For the VIB Rouge member the sale started October 26-29, but the official sale is November 2-5. And don’t worry if you’re not a VIB or VIB Rouge you can still get 15% off. I do want to add a small disclaimer that even though the percentages and coupon codes haven’t been announced for the VIB and Beauty Insiders I am going off of what the percentages were last year.
Skincare has to be one of the things I always try to make advantage of during both Sephora sales. If you can plan it right some of those really expensive items can last from sale to sale, that way you can always get a discount on them. Some items you do go through faster and cant help it but I always try to pick up those super pricey items during the sale. For me that’s pretty much any Drunk Elephant product, as you probably can guess I’m obsessed with their products and getting any kind of discount on their items is amazing. If I were to recommend any item from their line it would hands down be the TLC Framboos Glycolic Night Serum and second would be the Lala Retro Whipped Cream Moisturizer. The Gylcolic Night serum is one of those items that can be stretched to last the six months between the two sales, which is amazing since a full size (1oz/30ml) version cost $90. I always want the moisturizer to last longer (i mean it is $60 for 1.69oz/50ml), but it always just runs out right before, so I have to repurchase it before the sale. Another skincare brand I would highly recommend is belif. They are a Korean skincare line. I actually bought several belif products from a Sephora sale a few years ago and one of which is my cleanser and it is still going strong (Seriously I think I only just hit half way and it’s 5.4oz/160ml for $26). The standout product from them would have to be their Aqua Bomb (full size 1.68/50ml for $36 and a mini 0.84oz/25ml for $22). It’s a gel-like moisturizer that is light and hydrating, and I’ve used it on it’s own or under a thicker moisturizer or oil. I’ve seen it recommend for people with oily skin since it is so light. Recently I’ve been trying to out Dr. Jart’s Cicapair line, which is for red, irritated sensitive skin, which mine has been lately. So far I really like it and they have a pretty good deal on a holiday set featuring all (if not then most, I think there are only 5) from this line. All the products in this holiday set are minis, which I love, the price is $36 which is cheaper than any one full size item. Now hands down the one item anyone who loves makeup or wears a lot of makeup should get is the Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm with Echinacea GreenEnvy, (man that’s a mouth full). This cleansing balm will get rid of all if not most of your makeup. I have never been so impressed by anything that removed makeup as I am with this product. It is kinda pricey for a cleansing balm ($36 for full size 3.2oz/90ml and $22 for a mini 1.7oz/50ml) but being able to get all or most of my makeup off really does improve your skin. Seriously you never realize how much is still on there even after using makeup wipes and/or cleansing.
2. Luxury Brands
As you probably already know I love makeup tutorials on Youtube. I swear there’s is always at least one product people rave and gush over and it’s always the one from a high end luxury brand. I’m always curious to know if the super fancy brand’s products are that amazing, that is until I see the price and I nope right out of that situation. But I feel like if I really want to try a really fancy brand now is the time to do it. I wish I could say I have a ton of recommendations for this category but I try to hold back from buying the super high end or luxury products usually until the sale rolls around. One I would recommend (and a cult favorite) is the Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. Its hard for me to recommend this item since a 1oz/30ml bottle is $64 and the mini is 0.6oz for $42. If you’re thinking that the price is absolutely insane, well that’s because it is. But there is a reason everybody loves this foundation so much, it’s one of the only foundations that I have found that truly makes your skin look like skin but better. And trust me I wanted to hate this product when I first tried a sample of it, but it’s really hard to hate. The other foundation I have that I get similar results is the YSL Touche Eclat All-in-One Glow this one is $48 for 1.01oz/30ml. This foundation has slowly become my go to foundation but it’s also the one I usually mix with other ones. I don’t know what it is about but I always get stunning results when I mix it with other foundations (and it is equally as stunning on its own). Both of these foundations are amazing but I don’t know if I would decide to purchase them if it weren’t for the sale. I don’t know if Bobbi Brown is truly considered a luxury brand but they are on the higher end of high end. One product I absolutely love from them but it’s seriously ridiculously priced is their Long Wear Liquid Liner, (it’s $37). This liquid liner isn’t like any other one I ever used. The color I love is the called Bronze Sparkle, and it adds that extra pop to any look. Plus the applicator has to be one of the easiest to use, but for $37 it should be. The only other product from a luxury brand I have been loving lately is the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Setting Powder. I had been eyeing it for awhile but it wasn’t until Charlotte Tilbury actually started selling in Sephora that I purchased it. While I like certain things about this product, the finely milled powder and it doesn’t make you look cakey, keep in mind that there is a hint of color to it. For most people the little bit of color wont be noticeable but I’m so fair that any color is noticeable and these powders tend to look a little dark on me.
3. Everyday Essentials
One area that often gets overlooked or in my case forgotten about are the items I use regularly. It’s easy to focus on the new fancy items during the sale, but don’t forget this is the time to buy the things you’ll know you’ll use. Beauty Blenders are the things I always overlook or forget to stock up on, but finally this year I remember to buy them (and some cleaner too). I made sure to buy more shampoo and conditioner. I love Briogeo’s Don’t Despair Repair line so I got the shampoo and their hair mask (which I use as conditioner). I always try to buy the large size (but not the largest ones they sell because I don’t think I paid enough attention) that way it will last awhile. The shampoo is 16oz/473ml for $36 and the hair mask $36 for 8oz/237ml. I would definitely recommend this brand all their products are clean and smell amazing, but best of all my hair feels strong and healthy. Whatever products are your favorites this is the time to stock up and make sure you have a back up in case you’re close to empty. I realized it would be the best to make sure I had another Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Longer Concealer. I use it everyday and for $28 for 0.23oz/7ml, now was the best time to get a backup. The other product I made sure I ordered a backup was the Kopari Coconut Lip Glossy ($12 for 0.35oz/10g). It’s a combo of a lip gloss and lip balm, but somehow better than both. It’s the best lip balm type product I have found at Sephora.Everyone that I have tried either has Lanolin which makes my lips go numb and dries them out even worse or is a Vaseline/Silicone-y texture that doesn’t hydrate them at all. Since I have the clear one (they have two colors a pink and a red) I don’t usually use it with makeup, though it could easily go over any type of lip product (lip liner, lipstick, liquid lip). It’s a great lip product that I highly recommend and one I haven’t heard that many people talk about.
4. Holiday Sets
The sale this time of year means tons of holiday sets are out. I find that you can get a pretty good deal when it comes to the holiday sets. For example the Dr. Jart holiday set I purchased (unfortunately before the sale) allows you to try different products from a brand for a much cheaper price. I’ve found some products I’ve loved when they were included in a set, but I’ve also found some to not be so great. I think this is the perfect opportunity to try a several products from a brand or to just try a brand in general. Don’t forget you can also give the sets away as gifts too. I have heard so many great ideas when it comes to giving holiday sets away as gifts, whether you give away one set completely, or break them down either with other sets and can have a mix and match or break them down into small stocking stuffer type gifts. I think since there is such a variety and they change every year its hard to recommend one particular holiday set. But my suggestion is to look at brands you know and love or brand you want to try or just try more of their products.
I am not a perfume person, since their smells usually lead to a massive headache for me. But since perfumes are so pricey now is the time buy them. Whether its an oldie but a goodie or a new scent I think getting any discount on a perfume makes it a perfect item to pick up during the sale. I also think its hard to recommend a perfume since they are so subjective.
I thought I would share how I usually shop for this sale. I like to put every product that I might possibly want into my basket. That way I can narrow it down easier and really limit the amount I buy. I will also sometimes swap something in and out. I’ve found this is the easiest way for me. I think it’s because I’m a more visual type of person, so I can see which products I want and which product I can try another time. I think it also helps to see the price and then limit the amount of products from there. I will say what I like about Sephora sales vs Ulta sales is that sale coupon code is available to use throughout the dates of the sale. In this case November 2- November 5, that code can be used unlimited amounts of time in store and online. Ulta sales give one code to be used only once throughout their sale dates, which sucks because I always forget something that I wanted to buy.
The Sephora Sale is that time of year you can finally put those items you’ve been eyeing forever into your basket. It’s the time when the really expensive items become 20% less expensive, but don’t get wrong still expensive. I all I have to say is have fun shopping and enjoy all the new beauty products you get. And if there is something you don’t like don’t forget that Sephora has an awesome return policy.
